Pre-purchase examinations

The pre-purchase examination provides purchasers with a veterinary opinion of the overall condition of the horse and suitability for its intended use.

It includes taking temperature, listening to the lungs and heart pre and post exercise, examination of the oral cavity and eyes. Movement evaluation is performed, that involves examination of the horse in the straight line and circle, on soft and hard surfaces as well as flexion tests.
There are some other diagnostic tests that are occasionally recommended or requested by purchaser - digital radiography, blood tests, endoscopy, ultrasound etc.
